Film makers create Indo-Pak border in Fiji Kya Dilli Kya Lahore’s producers created the barren Wagah border between India and Pakistan in Fiji for the movie which stars Vijay Raaz.

Raaz, known for his roles in Monsoon Wedding and Delhi Belly, also marks his directorial debut in the movie.

The Wagah border’s barren stretch is the scene for an unexpected and hostile meeting between a Pakistani soldier and an Indian army cook in the movie, a comedy drama which takes place in the early years of Indian independence.

The Times of India reports the film’s art director Aman Vidhate, who recreated the Wagah border in Fiji, says that the team was running for a locale after the hot winds of Rajasthan played havoc with their plans, when someone suggested Fiji.

“I travelled with a team of two to the country and I was pleasantly surprised to see that Fiji has a large Indian-origin population which understood Hindi and made life a lot easier,” he said.

But they found sourcing raw materials for the construction of a well, which is central to the plot, became a difficult exercise as they couldn’t find Plaster of Paris and fiberglass.

"Then the local contractor suggested dental plaster and we made the well with jute ropes and just one kilo of the material. It is funny in hindsight but at that moment we were distraught," said the Vidhate.

The film’s two main characters exist in a small compound, with barracks and a well.

It features songs by Gulzar, who also narrates. Apart from Raaz, the cast includes Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’s Manu Rishi, Raj Zutshi and Vishwajeet Pradhan.
